Tilt and Turn Windows

What is a Tilt and Turn Window?

This type of window is mainly incorporated into the upstairs rooms as they are ideal for fire escapes and have an easy clean function, meaning they can be cleaned from the inside of the house. Tilt and turns are used frequently in new builds especially office blocks and high rise flats.

Benefits of a Tilt and Turn Window.

The biggest benefit from a Tilt and Turn Window as opposed to a Casement Window for instance is the ease of cleaning. These windows can be fitted to downstairs rooms but are more used in upstairs as they are designed to be cleaned from inside the room. Another benefit is the windows can be manufactured so that the glass area can be uninterrupted by transoms and mullions therefore leaving a clear view.

Tilt and Turn Windows allow warm air to flow out through the top  and cool air to enter through the sides. Switching the window to the turn position means it opens inwards a full 90 degrees, aiding ventilation and cleaning. If required, it can be used as an emergency exit. Safety catches can be fitted as well as child restrictors.
